TextGrab support
Useful help, without asking for your captures.
Find the answer below or send a short description of what happened. Please remove any sensitive text or screenshots before emailing support.
Why does TextGrab need Screen Recording access?
macOS protects screen content with Screen Recording permission. TextGrab needs it only to read the region you explicitly select. On first launch, choose Request Access, enable TextGrab in System Settings, then quit and reopen the app if macOS asks you to.
Why is there no Dock icon?
TextGrab is intentionally a menu-bar utility. Use its menu-bar icon or a configured global shortcut to start a capture, open settings, or browse your capture library.
What can I import?
TextGrab can recognize visible screen regions, images, PDFs, clipboard images or PDFs, and compatible captures returned through Continuity Camera from a nearby iPhone or iPad.
Are my screenshots or PDFs stored?
No. Source screen regions, imported files, clipboard images and PDFs, and Continuity Camera images are processed in memory. TextGrab’s history stores recognized text and capture details, not source images.
How do I clear saved text?
Open the capture library to delete individual records or clear history. If Additive Clipboard is enabled, use Clear Additive Clipboard in Settings to remove its stored collection.
Why does clear-on-paste request Accessibility access?
Clear-on-paste is optional. It needs Accessibility permission solely to notice a paste action in another app and clear the additive clipboard after that paste. It is not needed for ordinary capture, recognition, or copying.
Does TextGrab work without an internet connection?
Recognition uses Apple Vision on your Mac. Apple Translation and speech use system frameworks; macOS may need to download a language or voice resource before a requested language is available.
